Gopher

36" x 36" x 1.5" acrylic on canvas

This painting is my tribute to the gopher tortoise, one of the oldest living species on our planet today. As a keystone species, the gopher tortoise plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance and health of our entire ecosystem. Its burrows provide shelter to over 300 other animals, including snakes, frogs, and mice.

However, the gopher tortoise faces a significant threat: habitat loss due to urbanization and development. Through this artwork, I aim to highlight the importance of preserving the natural habitats that these ancient creatures, and many other animals, depend on.

The gopher tortoise represents more than just survival; it embodies resilience, the strength of interconnectedness, and the profound wisdom of nature.
